Ahkmar responds:

Thank God I'm not the only one!

awesome

just awesome. this was great. i loved the whole thing. and i actually learned a couple things. but might i add a couple things:
if youre doing your own art, and draw an automatic pistol like that, please remember that every time you fire, the slide will pull back, and eject the shell, and then snap back into place. shouldnt take more than a frame or two. also, no handgun will kick back that much as in this tutorial. sure it looks kinda cool, but unless youre firing a raging bull or .44 magnum, the kickback will lift your hand 4-6 inches, no more. sorry, im in the military and i love guns. but this tutorial was brilliant, and everyone should watch it.

woohoo

youre not much of an artist, but one HELL of a conceptualist. this was great. i especially love the music selection. thats why i gave it a 6 (i only give 5s for one song soundtracks)
made me want to sell my trans am... just for a second.

wow

new to flash? that was better than most of the drivel i see posted daily on the portal by "vets". keep it up, make em longer, and try some vocals, you could be the next legendary fro- i mean jot and ja- i mean super fla-i mean you could be good. dont worry about the preloader, i cant figure that actionscript crap out either. i just wanna draw, people! on the downside, you used "2" instead of "to" in your intro, and my wife hates you now.

dareel1lilthug responds:

Oh no someone hates me now...:( oh well thanks for the positive review!

well...

graphics are 3 because they are all lifted bitmaps. style is a 2 because once again, its all lifted from gorillaz. sound is a 5, because it was transferred well but i cant give anything higher because its lifted from gorillaz. no violence. interactivity is a 2 because there are 3 buttons to push. i know its not a game, but i cant pretend it was interactive. humor is a 1 because i find gorillaz artwork friggin hilarious. overall 5.

im new to flash too. ive been animating with it about a month and a half and i should be ready within a week or two to submit my first to newgrounds too. but mine is an actual animation. im not dissing yours though, but it is relatively simple, and as far as all this stuff on newgrounds go, its a bit bareboned. but you cant use being new to flash as an excuse. secret messages in songs is kinda a niche interest, so you cut down your audience right there. lots of people on newgrounds like the gorillaz, myself included, so we all checked this out only to discover its about making secret messages in songs. a bit confusing, no?

i think you did a good job. focus more on original content, and i think youll do fine. dont give up on flash just ebcause of newgrounds. ive been checking this site out since 1998, and ive seen it go from just a bunch of toilet humor into being the premiere flash submission site. careers are made on this site sometimes, and as a result, competition is fierce. being blammed on the first try isnt the worst thing, and you havent had that happen. just get some thick skin, and keep churning it out. feel free to email me if you need any help or just need support in the scary worlds of newgrounds.

JMUWolf responds:

im sure i dont have a future in flash.

fantastic

holy hell. this is by far the best lovecraft mythos oriented cartoon ive seen yet! even better than pokemoneth al subuzneth beelzebub. i figured with the title it would be a lame attempt, but after watching i know its intentional, and i feel even MORE rewarded! im gonna go watch it again and feel my mind shift!
ia ia!

well

the "song" sic, from numetal masters slipknot, is basically a random series of gutteral screams and frightened shrieks. so in that context you fulfilled that visually quite nicely. your fbf animations started off very amateurish but eventually began to hold up nicely. i can tell you learned a lot while working on this piece. however, if you want to do frame by frame animation, you cannot use that as an excuse to let the line quality suffer. its the fbf stuff that sets bitey of brackenwood or dad's home apart from stuff like illwillpress and the hundreds of moronic rambling ones.
as far as content, very gross, unecessarily so. but thats part of what slipknot's shock is about, is over the top grossness (well, not over the top, just over mtv's top) so in that sense you stayed true to the audio (which for anyone who didnt know, is not original, its the first track off of slipknots 2nd album)
and as far as audio goes, slipknot is really an overrated, undertalented band. this is of course my opinion, but the only member with any talent is joeu jordison, and his isnt exactly earth shattering. 3 drummers is silly, when the kit player is more than capable of playing all parts at once.
if you honestly think that slipknot is heavy and offensive or whatever, try some real metal, like burzum, dimmu borgir, emperor, opeth, or even lamb of god. these bands are not held by the same restrictions that slipknot is held by (the ones set forth by hot topic and viacom[owners of mtv]) and therefore can be as crazy and daring as they want. they also have an extreme sense of musicality. nu metal groups are purely designed for teenagers. if you truly want to be different and angry, dont take what they feed you. look outside the box, and find some truly revolutionary music. but if thats not enough for you, at least go listen to slipknots better albums. i liked that sound when it first came out, when it was called MUSHROOMHEAD.

ironbreath responds:

Hmmm, I really appreciate the review. A real good, thorough review at that. I understand that I titled the song incorrectly, but I titled the vidoe (sic) because theat's what I thought the video portrayed. As far as the whole music thing goes, I listen to all kinds of metal/heavy metal and nu metal. I listen to SOAD, slipknot, godsmack, lamb of god, cradle of filth and other stuff... i'm not a one-track minded person. your review was probably the best one i've recieved from anyone, on any of my flash movies. thanks a lot for the awesome review.

fantastic

read any book on making flash toons. each say "take advantage of flash limitations and make them your style" which is exactly what legendary frog has done. im not really one for video game spoofs, theyre just too easy, so im not the biggest fan of all your work, but these lotr sendups are astonishing in quality and content. great timing, no dragging, wonderful. i like all you work though, theyve kinda become synonymous with what a flash cartoon looks like.

wtf

look, i know you put a lot of time into this, so im not going to try to just tear down your entire self esteem. however, this is a majorly flawed animation. i can see you were going for a gross out warner bros style, which means maybe you should actually watch a few cartoons, get a sense of timing. thats what comedy is, timing. at first i thought all the characters were speaking gibberish, which was funny until i realized they were actually speaking english. theres really no excuse for that. i use an $8 microphone going through a shareware program. there really is no reason to have that foul of audio. comedy timing aside, the last few scenes begin to run into each other, the audio beings and ends before characters even begin to move their mouths, its basically chaos.
watch some more cartoons, classics especially and get a feel for timing. read some books like cartooning in flash, or illusion of life from disney. these books really help lay down the groundwork for what a cartoon should be.
visually however, i think you did quite well. a stripped down style with repetitious models can be quite funny. focus more on your comedic timing, your audio recording, and your vocal acting.

vast improvement over ep. 1

i watched episode 1. and to be honest, i hated it. i hesitated to watch episode 2, but i know how episode 1s are, so i bit. VASTLY superior to episode 1 in every aspect, from graphics to sound to voice acting to humor! funny funny funny, and i especially liked the david firth jab. keep it up

DeuceNine responds:

thanks man...i really appreciate reviews like this one..

"and in recent news, an animator on the notorious newgrounds.com went to his school, turned into a stick figure, and kept saying "pwned""
